Hello!
As we are down to our last few days before traveling to China, I wanted to clarify the baggage policy for Delta as there has been some questions about it.
I just spoke with Delta customer service about our trip and was told the following:
· Every passenger is allowed to check two bags for free for our flight from Beijing to China, as well as have a carry-on item and a personal item on the plane. However, please remember that students are responsible for transporting and carrying everything they bring with them to China and bring home with them. We also have a flight from Beijing to Shanghai that will only allow one suitcase. I would recommend one checked suitcase and a carryon.
· Carry on items must meet the size/weight restrictions listed at http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/baggage/during-your-trip/carry-on.html
· Checked items must meet the size/weight restrictions listed athttp://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/baggage/before-your-trip/checked.html?icid=Policy_Ck_Baggage_Ongoing
· And here is a brochure of prohibited items for both checked and carry on luggage: http://www.tsa.gov/sites/default/files/assets/prohibiteditems_brochure.pdf
I cannot stress enough how important it is that you follow both the Delta and the TSA luggage guidelines, lest you face serious fees and/or questioning. Please double check all pockets of purses and backpacks and suitcases to ensure that there is nothing in there that you don’t know about.
